I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the hunt for book recommendations.
So if you’re looking for some new books to dive into, I’ve got you covered in today’s post, with 5 recommendations of awesome books that I’ve read (or reread) recently and loved, including books about money and creativity, a delightful fable, and my latest young adult favourites.
I had only just began Big Magic when I knew that it was going to be one of my all-time favourite books, and I was right.
The moment I finished this book for the first time, I immediately went back to the start and began reading it again, it’s that good. Since then I’ve read it three times, and I know it’s something I’m going to continue to come back to again and again.
There’s been a lot of hype around this book, but I believe it’s for good reason. And for me, it’s been one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read. The message is exactly what I needed to hear, and it was delivered in a way that really resonated with me.
This book has lit a fire within me to live a more creative life and empowered me to not let fear hold me back.
“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”
In three words: Dynamite + empowering + revolutionary

“An exhilarating and heart-wrenching love story about a girl who learns to live from a boy who intends to die.”
All The Bright Places is about love, life and loss. And even though it deals with things like depression and grief, I found that at the same time it was bittersweet, funny, and just unforgettable.
It’s equally heart-breaking as it is heart-warming, and I really couldn’t put it down.
After spending a lot of time at university studying mental illness in my psychology degree, I truly believe that stories like these are SO important, as it helps to create more awareness, insight, and conversation about the difficult topic of mental illness.
It’s also currently being adapted into a film, which I’m really looking forward to seeing.
In three words: Unforgettable + bittersweet + LIFE
The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari is a delightful fable about “fulfilling your dreams and reaching your destiny”.
It shares the wisdom of the fictious Julian, a lawyer who found himself completely out of balance and unhappy and found a way to live a more meaningful life.
The philosophies are simple and straight-forward, but definitely powerful.
I read this in a couple of sittings and even though it was a really easy read, it does a really good job of showing you, step by step, in a simple and practical way how to create a more meaningful existence.
“Failure is not having the courage to try, nothing more an nothing less.”
In three words: Simple + wise + meaningful
The tagline for this book is: “untangle your financial woes and create the life you really want” and that’s exactly what it will help you do.
This book is so much more than just a book about money, ultimately it is about creating and living the life you desire.
I love the way Kate talks to you as if you are a friend, she’s compassionate, grounded and witty, plus she has a really fresh approach to money and abundance.
With it’s unique approach, solid advice, and practical money practices, this book will change your relationship with money.
“Your best self likes naps and time to play. Your best self does her best work when she’s nourished, well hydrated, has lots of pleasure in her life, and has slept at least 8 hours.”
In three words: Practical + empowering + honest
The Sky is Everywhere is a really well-written story about Lennie, a seventeen-year-old girl, who is trying to navigate the aftermath of her sister unexpectedly dying.
It’s unwaveringly honest, vulnerable and passionate. Plus at the same time it’s both funny and heart-breaking. And sometimes despair and humour collide on the same page.
The story itself is beautifully written, and there are actual poems scattered throughout the story, which are unique and really enrich the story.
If you enjoyed Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell or All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven I would recommend this to you.
“My sister will die over and over again for the rest of my life. Grief is forever. It doesn’t go away; it becomes a part of you, step for step, breath for breath.”
In three words: Poetic + candid + vulnerable
