Fear is something we all have to deal with.
It may be something you constantly try to avoid.
It may keep you locked in your safe little comfort zone.
It may be holding you back from doing amazing things.
And it may be one of the reasons you’re not living your dream life right now.

Because I honestly don’t think fear can ever be fully overcome, combatted or obliterated.
However, I do think that we can use fear to our advantage.
We can use it as a guide to do the things we truly and deeply want to do.
We can use it to help us challenge ourselves.
And it can also help us grow.

We can’t choose to not feel fear at all, because we’re human and we’re pretty much wired to feel fear in response to a ‘threat’.
However, when we’re feeling fear in response to a threat, that isn’t dangerous, we can choose to see fear in a different way.
We can choose to get friendly with our fear. To see if as a friend. Not the enemy.
We can choose to see fear as a reminder that something is super important to us.
To see it as a sign to keep going. To keep pursuing our dreams.
And to just do it!

Here are some examples from my own life, where I befriended fear and amazing things happened:
∞ I traveled overseas for the first time, when I was 15, only knowing one person in the group I was going with, and had an amazing time.
∞ Moved 200+ kilometres away from home to go to university in a place where I didn’t know anyone, and have loved living here.
∞ I attended a 10 day silent Vipassana meditation retreat, where we meditated for 10 hours each day, which was actually life-changing.
∞ I started a blog, which is something I had desperately wanted to do for such a long time. And here we are
∞ I signed up to a life coach training course with the Beautiful You Coaching Academy – and am now a qualified life coach!
And so much more!
Now imagine if I had let fear hold me back from doing these things. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today.
Even though while attempting to do these things I was feeling the fear big time, afterwards I was so incredibly grateful that I did!
And here’s something that really helped…

∞ If I did the scary thing what is the best, most amazing thing that could happen?
∞ What would my life be like if I never ever did the scary thing?
∞ After I had done the scary thing how would I feel?
I use my responses as rocket fuel to take the leap and just do it!

I can honestly say that befriending fear has transformed my life.
I wish I could say that I don’t struggle with fear anymore – because I do.
In fact, I walk side by side with fear on a daily basis.
But I don’t let fear hold me back anymore.
In fact, I’m sure when I go to publish this blog post I will feel fear, but as Susan Jeffers says…
And that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
Now over to you! I would love for you to a share in the comments below a time you were afraid to do something, but afterwards you were so glad you had done it.
