As we’re at the beginning of a new year I thought I would give you an insight into what my guiding word is for 2016, what it means to me and how I came up with it. And I’ll also be sharing what my Core Desire Feelings are for the year head (aka how I want to feel), what the mean to me, how I came up with them, plus some useful tips for coming up with your own Core Desired Feelings.
But before we get into that here’s a little recap my word and Core Desired Feelings for last year…
In 2015 my word was: DEVOTION. And this turned out to be such a powerful guiding word and turned out to be so much more than I thought it would be.
My Core Desired Feelings for last year were: CONNECTION. JOY. GRATITUDE. EASE. GENEROSITY. And these served me really well last year, but by the end of the year I felt ready to switch them up.
Now moving forward to 2016…
Which for me is about:
Stepping up. Transcending. Showing up. Deciding to rise.
Being profoundly dedicated to my evolution. Growing. Fully expressing who I am.
Turning it up. Doing things I’ve never done before. Stretching. Expanding.
To amplify what I’m already doing. Dialling it up. Profound devotion. Soaring.
Saying YES. To myself, opportunities and new experiences.
This year (and last year) to come up with my guiding word for I’ve used Susannah Conway’s free 5 day email class Find Your Word. The classes gently and simply guide you in uncovering your guiding word.
This is how I want to feel this year.
I usually come up with 5 Core Desired Feelings, but this year that felt like too many. And I felt called to keep it simple (a theme that’s already emerging for this year) and narrow it down to three feelings that felt aligned and powerful for me.
Here’s an insight into how I’ve broken each of these words down and what they mean to me…
Profound dedication. Doing the work. Finding the joy in commitment. Giving it my absolute all. Stepping up. Being prolific. Committing to rising. Being generous. Creating. Showing up. Sowing the seeds. Persistence. Doing whatever it takes. Taking inspired action. Embracing imperfect action. Getting it done.
Trust. Surrender. Making progress. Allowing things to happen with ease. Freedom from anxiety, concerns and worries. Trusting the process. Making steady and gradual progress. Softening. Embracing grace. Simplifying. Focusing on what’s most important. Making things easier — and allowing it to be easy. Feeling calm and content. Letting go of what’s not essential.
Feeling ALIVE. Limitless. Trusting the Universe. Being in awe. Amazed. Stepping up. Being generous. Empowered. Presence. Immense gratitude. Feeling ignited. Soaring. Rising. Aligned with my truth. Engaged. Being genuine. Manifestation. Embracing it all. Inspired. Feeling guided and supported. Pure joy.
I’ve been using Danielle Laporte’s The Desire Map* to help me work out how I wanted to feel for years now. It’s REVOLUTIONARY and has actually changed my life. It’s powerful, potent and super effective at helping you get to the core of how yo reallyu want to feel. I refer back to this resource all the time. And the workbook is super useful. I truly believe that your life will never be the same once you start living in alignment with how you want to feel — and this is an incredible guide to help you do that.
A few tips when coming up with your own Core Desired Feelings:
∞ Take your time with it. It’s not a race and you can go as fast or slow as you like. Sometimes it takes me a single day to come up with my CDFs and at other times it’s taken weeks. Enjoy the process — whatever it may be like for you.
∞ Keep asking yourself: is this how I want to feel? Is this REALLY how I want to feel? Keep questioning it. And continue to do this even after you’ve decided on them, because how you want to feel may change and evolve over time.
∞ Don’t hold back. Ever since I started working out my Core Desired Feelings I always scrapped the word INFINITE because I tell my self that it’s lame to want to feel infinite. But this year I declared I was going to RISE and part of that for me has been really owning how I truly want to feel, which is infinite.
∞ Sit with your CDFs for a while. Let them marinate. Keep checking back in with them.
∞ I also write my CDFs down in my diary or a notebook every single day, to keep them at the forefront of mind and to help me be intentional about doing things to cultivate these feelings.
∞ I like to use this graphic maker to create images of my Core Desire Feelings to use as my phone background as a reminder.
Which brings me to a super important point:
One of the most powerful things you can do (and a crucial piece of the puzzle) is to work out what you can do to feel the way you want to feel.
When I first set myself CDFs I didn’t intentionally cultivate those feelings in my life, so I wasn’t really surprised that I wasn’t feeling the way I wanted to feel.
Nowadays I take a much more practical approach… When I choose new CDFs I have a huge brainstorm of all the things I could possibly do (including big and little things) to help me feel that way and I refer back to this list all the time.
I also check in with my CDFs every week and make an effort to be intentional about making conscious decisions and taking inspired action to actually cultivate them.
And if you’re interesting in finding out what I intentionally did last year to cultivate my Core Desire Feelings I’ll be sharing this exclusively with the Infinite Community in my next newsletter. So that’s it! I’m really excited about my word and Core Desired Feelings for this year, they feel really good to me and I’m looking forward to seeing how they unfold throughout the year.
